Sam Gnatovich

August 15, 1924 — March 19, 2006

Sam Gnatovich, 81 passed away Sunday, March 19, 2006 at his home.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 23, 2006 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Entombment will be in Moline Memorial Park and Mausoleum with military honors conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Moline Little League, American Cancer Society or the Kidney Foundation.
Sam was born August 15, 1924 in East Moline to Nick and Mary (Perkovich) Gnatovich.
Sam worked in the Tri-City Food Store, East Moline. He opened his own supermarket on 23rd Ave., Moline. He expanded into the bowling and entertainment industry in 1959. Sam was very supportive for over 45 years of local, regional, and national muscians.
Sam served in the United States Marine Corp from 1943-1946 in the South Pacific as a Technical Sergeant.
Sam was very involved with the youth of the Quad Cities. He coached two grade school football teams, the Babe Ruth baseball league and the Moline Little League. He opened his bowling alleys to adults and children with special needs at reduced rates and had programs for both young and old in bowling leagues with reduced rates. Sam also enjoyed golfing , baseball, and basketball and he especially enjoyed playing his harmonica.
