Samuel Jacobs, 88 of Rock Island, died August 13, 2008 at Blessings Hospital, Quincy, IL.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m.Monday, August 18, 2008 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave.,Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home, with Masonic services at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 569/200 and VFW Post #1303. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Home, Geneseo or Illinois Veterans Home, Quincy for landscaping.
Sam was born April 7, 1920 in New Boston, IL to Andrew and Florence (Hand) Jacobs. He married Marie L. Pitsch on September 4, 1948 in Rock Island. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1988.
Sam was a carpenter working in Durant, IA and the Quad Cities. He later worked as a machinist for the Rock Island Arsenal. He then worked as a building inspector for Rock Island County and for the City.
Sam was a WWII Army veteran. He was a 32nd degree Mason and had served as past master for Trio Lodge #57 AF and AM, Rock Island. He was a former member of Milan American Legion and a life member of Disabled American Veterans. He was also a member of Carpenters Local #166 and an active member of Memorial Christian Church, Rock Island where he had been a member for over 60 years.
