Sandra L Stropes

Sandra “Sue” L. Stropes, 72, passed away at her home in Orion on Sunday, June 2, 2019.

Funeral services will 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 10, 2019 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd.   Visitation will be on Sunday from 1-4 at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery on the Rock Island Arsenal.  Memorials may be made to her family to be donated to local animal shelters.

Sue was born on November 18, 1946 in Moline, Illinois the daughter of Donald and Ardis Oakland Welborn.  She married William E. Stropes Sr. on September 23, 1967 in Galesburg, Illinois.

Sue was employed in Home Healthcare and as a Nurse’s Aide for over 25 years with Illini Hospital.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Carnation Circle and the Rock Island County Extension.  Sue enjoyed sporting events, music and teaching Sunday School.  Above all, Sue loved her family and her pets.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; Children, William (Tara) Stropes Jr. of Orion, Christine Stropes and the late Annie Crainshaw of Rock Island, Mark (Jackie B.) Stropes of Orion; Grandchildren, Levi, Koby, Peyton, Skyler and Kale.  She is also survived by brother, Gerry (Janet) Welborn of Orion; Step siblings, Larry Anderson, Terry Anderson & Lolly (Tom) Weihler; Sister-in-law, Diane Welborn; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Ardis; her brother, James; stepmother, Rosalie Anderson as well as a step sister-in-law Kathy Anderson.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Sandy and Mike Sonneville as well as Trinity Hospice for their care through Sue’s illness.
