She graduated from the former Mount St. Clare Academy in Clinton IA in 1963. She worked at the credit office at Wards and later as a secretary in the Engineering Dept. at Interstate Power Co. In 1965 she moved to the Quad City Area and started a career with John Deere. She held various positions in different departments and several different facilities retiring from the purchasing department at the John Deere Harvester Works in 1994.
Sharon enjoyed taking courses at Black Hawk College and continued to do so after retirement. While she was working she was very active in American Business Women's Assoc. She held every office and chaired many committees in the local Paddle Wheel Chapter and was elected "Woman of the Year" by her Chapter in 1993. After retirement she became in inactive member but continued to support their efforts to raise funds for scholarships for women.
Sharon felt that retirement was an opportunity to try new things and the summer of 1995 she worked as a marketing assistant for the Quad City Classic. The following year she returned to work at Deere on Contract, part time, and she enjoyed that. She then decided to become certified as an aquatic fitness instructor and taught at Two Rivers YMCA for a couple of years.
Next on her agenda was to travel more extensively and she did. Sharon enjoyed over seas travel especially if it involved cycling, skiing or hiking. Her greatest adventure was hiking the 26 mile Inca Trail from Cusco to Machu Picchu in Peru.
She was a volunteer for Special People Encounter Christ which is held at Christ The King Church where Sharon was an active member. She had been a member of Toastmasters International and had served on the executive board of the Mississippi Valley Postal Customer Council. She also held membership in The Mississippi Valley Ski Club, Quad Cities Bicycle Club, Corn Belt Running Club and the YMCA.
Survivors include her step-son William Lavell, his wife Elizabeth and their son Matthew all of Fort Mill, SC. She was close to them and felt very blessed to have them share their lives with her.
Sharon also leaves behind many cousins, aunts and uncles, but closest to her were her friends who she enjoyed spending time with, especially her best friend and companion of 12 years, her dog Molly
