Sheldon Larson

Sheldon Wayne Larson, 91, of Lynn Center, passed away Thursday, November 29, 2018, at Genesis Medical Center-Illini Campus, Silvis.

Memorial Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Swedona Lutheran Church.  Memorial Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday, at the church.  Burial of cremains will be at Swedona Lutheran Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to Swedona Lutheran Church.  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., is assisting the family.

Sheldon was born on June 23, 1927, in Moline, the son of Joseph and Esther (Chelstrom) Larson.  He married Nona Berniece Ruzanski on October 2, 1954, in Clayton, NM.  He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline on July 1, 1983, and was most recently employed at Regal Packer Bi Product Company in Lynn Center.

Sheldon was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the Army.  He was an active, lifelong member of Swedona Lutheran Church where he helped as an usher, trustee, and choir member.  He was a member of the American Legion Post 1077 and an adjutant and chaplain for Henry County.  He also served as Lynn Township supervisor for 40 years.  Sheldon was an avid Cubs fan and went to their spring training in Arizona 26 years in a row.

Survivors include his children, Phyllis Starner, Chandler, AZ, Allen (Joanne) Larson, Rock Island, Miriam Farris, Pueblo, CO, and Denise Provenza, Pueblo, CO; longtime companion, Iris Swanson, Lynn Center; 4 grandchildren, Jacob Hansen, Lauren Hanson, Mary (Hans) Unger, and Karlee Provenza; 3 great grandchildren, Chase and Evan Unger, and Chandler Hanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Merle David Larson, sons-in-law, Robert Starner and Kevin Farris, and siblings, Evan Larson and Evelyn Bloomberg.
