Shirley Ann Allston of East Moline, passed away on Feb. 14, 2012, at Mercy Hospital, Fairfield, Ohio.
Services will be Friday in Cincinnati, Ohio. Local services are 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, East Moline, with visitation 10 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family.
She was born March 7, 1936, in East Moline, daughter of John and Emily Allston.
She attended Augustana College and the University of Milwaukee.
Shirley was a missionary in the Church of God In Christ. She was active in jail ministry for over 20 years. She served on the Mothers board at Word of Deliverance Church in Cincinnati.
Shirley was employed at Head Start, Walker Royal Inc. and Project Now (retired). She collected knick knacks, hats and stuffed animals. She enjoyed watching westerns and writing poetry.
She loved the Lord, her children and grandchildren. Shirley was a woman of compassion and generosity.
She is survived by her children, Candace (Leroy) Jackson, Sulphur Springs, Texas, Cynthia (Jerome) Green, Moline, Curtiss Pettie, Cincinnati; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leann Robert; and sisters, Clarisa Mays and Betty Allston; and brother, Warren Allston.
