Shirley A. Dopler, 84, of Colona, IL, died Friday, September 8, 2017, at Ilini Restorative Care, Silvis, IL.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday September 12, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline Visitation will be Monday, September 11, 2017 from 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.  Burial will be at the National Cemetery, Rock Island, IL.  Memorials may be made to the Colona Grade School.

Shirley was born on August 17, 1933, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of Ralph and Bertha Schulte Nelson.  She married Harvey Dopler, on November 3, 1956, in East Moline, IL, preceded her on January 24, 2004. She was employed for 11 years as the secretary to the superintendent of the East Moline Grade School, leaving there in 1962 to raise her family.  In 1974, she began working as a bookkeeper for the Colona Grade School, retiring in 1987.

Shirley loved traveling with her husband, member of the Green Park Birthday Club, Vikings Club, she bowled in several leagues accomplishing, 2-600 series.  She also enjoyed sewing, crafts, and playing cards. She enjoyed golf, and was a member of the Geneseo Country Club.  Most of all she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially her weekly shopping trips with her daughter Julie.

Survivors include her 2 children, Julie Peters (Brad Millage), East Moline, IL, and Dennis Dopler, Blue Grass, IA, 4 grandchildren, Ryan Dopler (Elicia Bowen), Michael Dopler, Hayley Peters, Hannah Irizarry.   4 great grandchildren, Landon, Jordon, Jaycee, and Ryder.  Brother, William Nelson (Donna), Silvis, sister in law Dorothy Forsythe, East Moline, IL, brother in law, Frank (Sandy) Dopler, Port Byron, IL, sister in law, Gabby Dopler, East Moline, IL and special friends Connie Kahley, Colona, IL, and Barb Kershaw, Colona, IL

She was preceded by parents, spouse, sister Cynthia Strobbe, brother Woodburn Forsythe, and her dog, Molly.
