Shirley E. Kirkland, 94, of Rock Island, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019, in Rock Island.

Eastern Star Services will begin at 11 a.m., with funeral services to immediately follow on Wednesday, May 1, 2019, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory., Ltd., Moline. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Wednesday prior to services.  Burial of cremains will be at the Aledo Cemetery at a later date.

Shirley was born on December 20, 1924, in New Boston, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Violet (Fulton) Dodson.  She married Cecil Lee Kirkland and were together for 47 years before his passing in 1989.  In her early years, she worked at Oak Glen Home and later retired from the Roy E Roth Pump Company.

Survivors include her children, Marjorie (Jeff) McFadyen, Butch (Pat) Kirkland, and Donna Montgomery; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Heinze, Davenport, IA.

She was preceded in death by her husband and 3 brothers.

She was a private and strong woman who took whatever challenges life gave her with grace.
