Shirley Ann Ostrom, 77 years old, died on March 23 at Amber Ridge Memory Center, Moline.
Visitation is on Friday, March 26 from 4:00 until 7:00 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline IL. Cremation will take place after the visitation. The memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27 at 10:00, St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimers Association.
Born on September 15, 1932 in Moline IL, she was the third child of Harold S. Swanson and Elinor Millicent Murphy Swanson in Moline Illinois. She graduated from Moline High School in 1950 and attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing where she graduated in 1953. She married Warren Eggers Ostrom on January 30, 1954. Shirley worked as a nurse at Lutheran Hospital, then in the office of Dr. O.W. Koivun, Moline, where it was rumored she gave the best shots in the world. She served as executive secretary for Ostrom Painting and Sandblasting, Rock Island Illinois since the company's inception in 1981. Shirley was an avid golfer, belonging to Pinnacle Country Club in Milan for twenty five years. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, watching the Chicago Bears, Chicago Bulls and the Ladies PGA golf tour on television and going to Chicago with the Bag Lady Tour every fall. She was a member of Zonta and active in the First Day Fund.
Shirley was a wonderful friend who loved to have fun. A devoted grandmother, she enjoyed watching Kate Bautch (Stockton, CA) perform opera, Drake Ostrom race go carts and Rianna Ostrom ride horses. She became great grandmother to Samuel Bautch in November and loved looking at pictures of him.
She leaves behind husband, Warren, children Kim and David Ostrom, David's wife Rita, three grandchildren, one great grandchild, grandson-in-law Kevin Bautch and many, many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Harold S. Swanson Jr. and Richard Swanson.
