Shirley Maxine Weckel, 80, of Rapids City, died Saturday, July 23rd at Genesis Medical Center, Davenport.
She will be cremated and a private family service will be held.
Shirley was born Oct. 7, 1924 in Davenport to Bernard "B.H." and Catherine Todsen Schoonhoven. She married Thomas Deane Weckel in 1947 in Davenport.
He died in February of 2002.
She earned her registered nursing degree from Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing and retired as a nurse from the East Moline Correctional Center in 1992.
Shirley had a wonderful sense of humor. She was a very generous person. She loved cats, traveling, crossword puzzles, word games, reading and her nursing buddies, who she lunched with every month.
She is survived by son David Deane Weckel and his wife, Jackie Chesser, of Port Byron; daughter Sharon Kay Semenow and her husband, Lee Semenow, of Davenport; daughter Pamela Jeanne Weckel and her son, Seth Jacob Wilson, of Columbus Junction, Iowa; sister, Beverly (Carl) Kautz, of Moline; sister-in-law Joyce Schoonhoven of Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brother, B.H. Schoonhoven Jr.
