Stanley R. Schreckengost, 83, passed away peacefully on Saturday April
24th, 2010. He was currently residing in Kyle, TX, but was formerly
from Silvis, IL
Stanley was born in Valley Junction, IA on August 7th, 1926 to Daniel
and Esther Schreckengost.
He was employed by the Rock Island Railroad in management positions
until the company closed. He was then employed by the Chicago Rail Link for a short period of time. After retiring he was employed by the Moline YMCA in their maintenance department.
Stanley proudly served our country in the Navy during WWII as a gunners
mate and was honorably discharged at the end of his service. He was a
32nd degree Mason of the Masonic Lodge #898 in Silvis, IL, the Scottish
Rite in Moline, IL, and the Medinah, India and Kaaba Temple Shrines.
He loved wood working, traveling, dancing and collecting railroad
memorabilia. He and his wife Jane traveled extensively before her
passing. He loved his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren and
his faithful dog J.R. He was a kind man with a loving and giving heart.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 2nd from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a Masonic Service at 4 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38 Ave., Moline. The funeral service will be on Monday, May 3rd at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memorial Estate in Moline, IL. following the service. Any donations may be made to the Paws Shelter, Kyle, TX.
He is survived by his daughters, Shellie Schreckengost of Kyle, TX,
Kristi Bonta-Critchfield of Austin, TX, and her husband Frank. Three
grandchildren, Jason Schreckengost and his partner Christine Alexander
of Bertram, TX, T Jarrod Bonta and his wife Alva Moreno of Austin, TX.,
and Chance Critchfield of Austin, TX. Two great-grandchildren, Angela
Alexander and Tristan Schreckengost of Bertram, TX.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Jane, brothers Charles
(Red), Ray, sister Eleanor, sister in law Kathryn (Pert) and his parents Daniel and Esther.
