Stuvie C. Wallen, 94, of East Moline, IL, died Monday, December 03, 2012, at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, IL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 7, 2012, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 2420 41st Street, Moline. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at National Cemetery at Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church or a charity of your choice.
Stuvie was born on June 25, 1918 in Bernice, OK, to Stuvie and Mittie (Hames) Wallen. He married Faye Pickens in 1940. He later married Evelyn Denen in Moline, IL.
Stuvie graduated from Oklahoma A&M College with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed at Springfield Armory to design and install plant equipment for producing the .30 Cal. M-1 Rifle. Having served in Europe during WWII with an Army Engineer Regiment and later as a Military Government Officer in Germany, he returned to Springfield Armory in 1946 as a project engineer on Aircraft Weapons, particularly the 20MM M-61 (Gatling) machine gun. Stuvie transferred to the Ordinance Weapons Command at Rock Island Arsenal in 1955 as a senior engineer and deputy chief and remained active in the Army Reserve after WWII. He completed Command and General Staff College and retired with 23 years of service as a Lt. Clonel in the Ordinance Corps. Stuvie retired in 1977 as Director of the Rodman Laboratory of Rock Island Arsenal with 37 years of service.
Stuvie enjoyed playing bridge, reading, gardening and traveling. He visited all the U.S. states and over 60 foreign countries.
