Tanilo “Tony” Soliz age 87, of Moline, died Thursday, August 4, 2016 at UnityPoint Health-Trinity, Moline.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2016 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 8-11 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial is at St Mary’s Cemetery, East Moline, IL. Military Honors will be conducted by Moline American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to family.
Tony was born in Silvis, Illinois the son of Augustine G. and Tomasa Lopez Soliz. He married Patricia Quinones on March 8, 1952 in Moline, she preceded him in death on June 28, 2002.
Tony owned and operated Tony’s Barber Shop in Moline for over 63 years. He was a United States Navy Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict on the 727 U.S.S. DeHaven. He was a member of the Moline American Legion Post #246, the East Moline V.F.W. Post #8890 and the Korean Veterans and the Mexican American Golf League where he was past president. Tony was also past president of the Hero Street Monument Committee.
Tony was a member of the Bettendorf Apostolic Church under Pastor David Medina as well as a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Moline.
Tony coached baseball for many years and sponsored many sports teams through his barber shop. He was an avid golfer and artist, he organized many golf tournaments throughout the Quad Cities and had even painted many portraits for the John Deere Classic. Tony also gave golf lessons through the Y.M.C.A. to countless people. He sponsored and played on many bowling leagues and was a former Golden Glove champ. Tony was also the band manager for Next to None for many years and he loved music and especially Mariachi Music. He loved and enjoyed his Martinez family in Kansas but above all of these things was Tony’s love for spending time with his family and was called Grandpa by many.
