Services for Thelma Klingebiel, Sherrard will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at the Community Presbyterian Church, Sherrard. Burial is in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or to Sherrard Library.
The former Thelma Leona Tadlock was born was born March 8, 1911, in Mozier, IL., the daughter of Lee Franklin Tadlock and Minnie Jane Lemery Tadlock. She married Lewis E. Klingebiel on June 19, 1937 in Clarksville, MO. He died February 20, 1968.
She was a graduate of Clarksville High School, and attended Western Illinois State Teachers College in Macomb, IL. During her high school years she worked, after school hours, as an operator at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. In 1941, during the construction of a war plant, she worked as a PBX and Teletype operator with U.S. Government Signal Corp in Louisiana, MO. When her husband was transferred to Philadelphia, she became a volunteer with the Philadelphia Council of Defense for two years. She was a volunteer for seven years at the Sherrard Public Library. She worked for fifteen years as a clerk in the Sherrard Post Office. She was a former Supt. and teacher of the Presbyterian Church School, where she was a member for 54 years. She was a past-president of Sherrard Community Club, past president for Sherrard Woman's Club, and Past President's Club; past treasurer of Sherrard Band Boosters and past treasurer of Sherrard Home Extension Unit. She enjoyed music, reading, flower gardening, bird watching, sewing and walking.
