Thelma Rose Walz, loving known as “T”, 98, of East Moline, passed away Sunday, January 10, 2021, at Park Vista, East Moline, where she called home for her last few years and felt blessed by their care.
Public visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., Saturday, January 16, 2021, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline. A private family funeral service will be held and a livestream of the service can be found on Thelma’s obituary page at www.esterdahl.com at 11 a.m. on Saturday. A recording will also be available for later viewing. Entombment will be at Moline Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to RICCA (Rock Island County Council On Addictions) where Thelma served many years on the board, or the Susan G. Komen Foundation. In accordance with restrictions, attendees are expected to wear a face mask and observe social distancing.
Thelma was born on June 16, 1922, in Linton, Indiana, the daughter of William and Nellie (Moss) Abrams. She married Leo C. Walz, Sr., on September 18, 1942, in Riverside, California. He passed away on September 27, 2014. She worked as an accountant and office manager for a wholesale grocery warehouse when they lived in Minnesota. After moving to the Quad Cities, Thelma took a job on the Rock Island Arsenal as an editing specialist, then took a job with the Army as an alcohol, drug abuse and family counseling officer. She also developed a wellness program for the Army. She was a member of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Leo C. “Carl” & Pamela J. Walz, East Moline; four grandchildren, Miranda, Brad, Joyce, Chad; nine great grandchildren; and three great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers and four sisters
