Theodoor Joseph "Theo" Teijen, 78 of Moline died Tuesday, August 24, 2010. A Memorial service will be held at 11am this Saturday, 9/11/10, at the First United Presbyterian Church, 801- 16th Street in Moline. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to the First United Presbyterian Church or Bickford Assisted Living- Moline, 3650- 41st Street, Moline. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. is assisting the family with arrangements.
Theo was born on September 30, 1931, in Voorburg, Holland, the son of Albert and Johanna Odekerken Teijen. He was educated in Holland and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. Theo married Hetty van Essel on March 20, 1954 in Wassenaar, Holland. Four months after they were married, they moved to Edmonton, Alberta where Theo worked for Sherrit Gordon Mines. A year later they moved to Windsor, Ontario where he worked as plant engineer for Ford Motor Company of Canada. In 1959, Theo and Hetty immigrated to the United States, and settled in the Quad City area where Theo worked in Manufacturing Engineering for Deere & Company. During Theo's 27 years at Deere & Company he spent the majority of his time in the Moline area but also spent significant time at Waterloo Works in Waterloo, IA, John Deere Werke in Mannheim, Germany, and John Deere Werke in Zweibré�cken, Germany. Theo retired in 1986 after 27 years at Deere & Compny. In retirement Theo did volunteer work as a Volunteer Executive for the International Executive Service Corps spending time in Poland at a tractor parts manufacturing company.
Theo loved to travel and camp. As a young man he had already traveled extensively in Europe and since coming to the US he saw as much of this country as he could. His other main interest was music, including classical, European folk, and later even Elton John, whose piano playing he admired.
Survivors include his wife, Hetty, daughter, Ingrid (Mike) Klansek, Bluffton Indiana, son Frederik (Caron) Teijen, Mt.Vernon, Washington, 6 grandchildren and a brother, Hendrick (Anneke) Teijen of Oisterwijk, Holland.
