Thomas E. Peters

Thomas E. Peters, 80, of Orion, IL, died Thursday, October 19, 2017, at home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 1402 10th Street, Orion.  Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, October 23, 2017, at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., 1301 4th Street, Orion.  Burial will be at Western Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established in Tom’s name.

Thomas was born on November 27, 1936, in Moline, IL, the son of Urban and Hedvig Grimm Peters.  He married Patricia Heald in 1958, in Colona, IL.  He later married Betty Lynn Gustafson on April 6, 1974, in Orion, and she preceded him in death on March 2, 2014.  Thomas was a farmer.  Later, he worked as an owner and operator for Thrifty Rental, retiring in 1994.  Following his retirement, he restored antique tractors.

Thomas was a member of Mary, Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, where he was a former member of the Building Committee.  He belonged to the I.H. Antique Tractor Club and the NRA.

Survivors include his son, Donald Peters (Christine Keefe) Denver, PA; granddaughter, Mollie Owens, Milan, IL; great grandsons, Daniel Owens and David Owens; brother, Steven Peters (Karen) Coal Valley, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sons, David T. Peters and Douglas Ed Peters and a brother James William Peters.
