Tom was born on November 16, 1932, in Chicago, the son of Thomas and Sophie (Arendt) Klarkowski. He married Lynne M. Miller on April 19, 1980, in Rock Island. He retired from International Harvester, East Moline, and the Rock Island Arsenal. Tom loved to travel, was a frustrated golfer, enjoyed a cold Guinness on his beloved screened in porch, trips to see the family, and watching the Chicago Cubs. His faith was deep and kept him going through some difficult health challenges. Of all his travels, he treasured visiting the Holy Land and talked about it often when reading his daily scriptures. Tom was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and volunteered as a funeral acolyte.
Survivors include his wife and best buddy for 41 years, Lynne; daughters, Liz (Mike) Leaf and Cathy (Tom) Schroeder; grandsons, Nick and Zach Schroeder; sister, LaVerne Stevenson; and many nieces and nephews across the United States.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Rita Marlier and Delores Kulp and brothers, Don and Jim Klarkowski.
