Velma Fifer Kallman Cruser Splichal
Velma Splichal, Moline, died at her daughter's home on Thursday, October 21. Visitation is at Esterdahl's Mortuary, Moline, on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. with funeral services on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial is in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens, Moline. Remembrances can be made to the American Red Cross or Illini Hospital Auxiliary.
Velma Fifer was born on Valentine's Day, 1923. She graduated from Moline High School and had married Roy Leon Kallman, Ernest Cruser, and Edward Splichal.
She was Patient Services Coordinator at Illini Hospital for 22 years (a job she loved) retiring in 1989. She had also worked at Lord's Jewelers.
As a former member of Moline First Baptist Church, she helped establish the John Mason Peck Sunday School class.
Velma had been active in Wells School PTA, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts, several bowling leagues, and the Illini Hospital Auxiliary. She was an officer in both the East End Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.
An avid sports fan and Cubs fanatic, Velma also enjoyed word search puzzles, playing cards, needlework, and reading. She especially enjoyed recent road trips and fish dinner at Rexie's Gourmet.
Surviving is her brother, Robert Fifer, Silvis; daughters Sandra (Gene) Easley, Greenville, SC; and Victoria Flesher, Moline; grandchildren Christine (Brian) Gilbert, Mississippi; Brenda (Scott) Morehart, Aledo; David (Debby) Flesher, New York; and John (Nikki) Flesher, Moline; nine great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Special friends include Ray Flesher, Diane Box, and the John DeBuysere family.
Her parents, an infant daughter, husband Ed, and brothers Edmund and Richard Fifer preceded her in death.
Family and friends will miss her humor, strong spirit, big heart, and helping hand.
