Verlea H. Johnson, 95, of Rock Island, died June 10, 2009 at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 with a visitation one hour prior at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Memorials may be made to the family. Burial will be 2p.m. in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona, IL.
Verlea was born July 14, 1913 in Seaton, IL to Frank B. and Sarah Theresa Doak Henry. She married Robert "Bus" Johnson on October 19, 1939 in Aledo. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1989.
Verlea was a secretary at Esterdahl Mortuary, Ltd. for over 15 years. She also worked at Bear Electric, Moline and 8 years at Times Record, Aledo where she was society editor and bookkeeper.
Verlea was a member for over 25 years of American Business Women Association - Plow Capital Chapter where in 1967 she was treasurer and also throughout the years chaired different committees. She also received Woman of the Year Award from ABWA. She enjoyed crocheting, needle work, and quilting. She was also head of the ladies choir at Hauberg Civic Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband and her sisters Margaret Lyle, Lois Wernette, and Frances Bergstrom.
