Vernon D. Bandelow, age 68, of Silvis, died Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in rural Altamont, IL. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m., Tuesday at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Memorials may be made to Andover Historical Society or Intouch Adult Day Service of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois.
Vernon was born December 12, 1942, at home in Fayette County, near Altamont, IL, the son of Delbert and Esther Durheim Bandelow. He married Bonnie Lattig on September 2, 1962 in Ramsey, IL.
Vernon was employed as a electronic technician for Bendix Corp. in Davenport from 1963-1979. Some of the work he did at Bendix was used in the space program. He later was employed as John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline from 1979-2001. While at John Deere, his work resulted in several patents. Vernon was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and has been on the church board. Vernon was a collector of Dubuque-built John Deere tractors. He enjoyed golfing, wildflowers, and bird photography. Vernon built his house in Andover.
