Vernon A. Maxson, age 83 of Moline, died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2007 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Private family entombment will be in Moline Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Riverside United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Vernon was born September 29, 1923 in rural West Liberty, IA, the son of L.K. and Efra (Madsen) Maxson. He married Betty (Bretz ) Dotson on May 19, 1951 in Wapello, IA.
Vernon was employed as a mechanical engineer at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline for over 31 years, retiring in 1982. He was a World War II army veteran serving in the European Theatre from Jan. 1943-Jan. 1946, and was awarded the Purple Heart. Vernon was a member of Moline American Legion Post #246. He was a member of the ASAE. He was also a member of United Methodist Men. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. Vernon was a very active volunteer after his retirement, driving for Meals on Wheels and the American Cancer Society. He also sold real estate for Century 21 - Simpson- Moline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son , Jerry; brother, Harvey Maxson; and sister, Evelyn MacGowan.
