Viola F. Baker, 91, of East Moline, died July 31, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 5, 2009 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601-38th Avenue, Moline. Visitation is from 4:00-7:00- p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial is in Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Memorials may be made to First Assembly of God Church, East Moline or a favorite charity.
Viola was born June 4, 1918 in Rome, IA to I.V. and Emily (Alter) Farrier. She married Joseph D. Baker on May 6, 1939 in Moline. He preceded her in death on August 21, 1971.
Viola worked at the day care center in Bethel Assembly of God Church, as a clerk for the Modernistic Motel in Moline, in custodial service for the Corp of Engineers and retired in 1980 as a clerk for the Rock Island Arsenal.
Viola was an active member of First Assembly of God Church, East Moline where she was the first female deacon, and a member of the ladies missionary group. In her younger years she was active in PTA and a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts. She collected recipes which she turned into Grandma Baker's Cookbook. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting (making many baby outfits), and was a self employed seamstress.
