Wallace B. Aukland, 80, of Orion, Illinois died Monday, June 9, 2008 at Genesis East, Davenport, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 13, 2008 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Orion. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, 1301 4th Street, Orion. A memorial fund has been established in his name at the St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Wallace was born April 29, 1928, in Shelly MN, the son of Bennie and Mabel (Engelstad) Aukland. He married E. Mardelle Anderson on March 20, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Orion.
Wallace attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN for two years. He was an inventory management specialist at the Rock Island Arsenal where he was employed until his retirement in 1988. He served in the Army from 1951 to 1953, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Orion American Legion Post #255 as well as the Moline Viking Thor Lodge #9. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he was a faithful usher. He was also active in the bible study class at the church. He enjoyed tending to his yard and automobiles, spending time with his family, and going to his grandchildren's activities. Wallace enjoyed keeping active and traveling.
