Walter J. Kavanski

Walter J. Kavanski, 89, of Moline, died December 30, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at 11:30 a.m. with a visitation from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to Knights of Columbus.
Walter was born October 29, 1919 in Moline to Ludwig and Anna Kavanski.
He married Anastasia "Lou" (Kachevas) on June 14, 1941 in Moline. She preceded him in death on March 5, 1997. He was a WWII Army veteran.
Walter was employed at the Civilian Conservation Corp and then later worked for Minneapolis-Moline. He retired from the city of Moline in 1981 after 30 years of being a firefighter.
Walter was a member of the Moline American Legion #246, Moline VFW #2153 and the Knights of Columbus. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan. He enjoyed attending Army reunions, traveling to Europe, Mexico and all over the United States with his wife Lou. He also enjoyed spending time with his large family. He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and always joking with everyone.
Lou was the love of his life and he looked forward to being with her once again.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Pamela (Reynolds) Bratton, great granddaughter Jennica Bratton his sister Mary Needham and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
