Walter H. Snell

Walter H. Snell, 90, of Sherrard, IL, passed away Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, IA.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. with a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Green Rock Free Will Baptist Church, 918 2nd Street, Colona, IL.  Burial will be at Cable Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted.  Memorials may be made to Green Rock Free Will Baptist Church.  Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family with arrangements.

Walter was born on March 25, 1926, in Aledo, IL, the son of Walter J. and Eva Kay Snell.  He married Violet J. Lundquist on January 12, 1949, in Rock Island, IL, and she preceded him in death on April 15, 2010.  Walter farmed for over 60 years in the Alpha, Coal Valley, and Sherrard area.  He retired as a welder from Montgomery Elevator, and continued to farm following his retirement.

Walter was a veteran having proudly served in the United States Navy.  He was a member of the American Legion and enjoyed gardening and farming.

Survivors include his son, Alan (Dianne) Snell, Lynn Center, IL; daughter, Trudy (Phillip) Thornburg, Lynn Center, IL; 5 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 sisters; 1 brother.
