Walter F. Veyette, 80, of Orion, passed away March 20, 2025, at his home.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday March 24, 2025, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Orion. Inurnment will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to his family for a fund to be established. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory Ltd., Orion, is assisting the family.

Walter was born on March 28, 1944, in Blue Island, Illinois, the son of Russell and Emma (Radditz) Veyette. He was a U.S. Veteran, having served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He married Georgia L. Heitmann on June 6, 1970, in Blue Island. He had been employed as a cement mason and later with the Modern Drop Forge in Blue Island as a hammerman and later as scheduler of jobs, retiring in 2006. He enjoyed tending to his yard and watching bald eagles. Above all, he loved being with his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Georgia; children, Cheri Veyette (Guy Mitchell), Coconut Creek, Florida, Todd Veyette, Hobart, Indiana, Eric Veyette (Barbara Jorgensen), Moline; grandchildren, Brooke Veyette (Chandler Work), Rock Island, Izabelle Veyette (Jacob Neal), Moline, Jerzey Veyette, Moline, Ryan Thomas, Joliet, Jacob Veyette, Aurora, Joshua Veyette, Aurora; great grandchildren, Ophelia Neal and one baby on the way; siblings, Mary Smith, Crestwood, IL, Rita (Ray) Broz, Oakridge, TN, Denise Barry, Virginia Beach, VA, Weldon “Swede” (Linda) Veyette, Oliver Springs, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melvin Clinton, Bobby Clinton, Joe Veyette, Jim Veyette, Russell “Buzzy” Veyette, sisters, Nancy Mansell and Dorothy Prince.
