Wayne I. Smidesang, 79, went to be with his Lord, Jesus on March 19, 2012 at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL. Visitation is Thurs, March 22, 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Elim Covenant Church, Moline, with funeral to follow at 11:00 a.m. Memorial gifts may be given to Elim Covenant Church. Burial will be at Rose-Lawn Memorial Estates. Arrangements are being handled by Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline.
Wayne was born in Moline, IL on August 28, 1932 to Odin and Burness Smidesang. He married Nancy Stead in Aledo, IL on June 5, 1960.
He graduated from Moline High School in 1950. Wayne was honorably discharged from the Army of the United States as a sergeant serving in Alaska during the Korean War. He then served in the army reserves as 1st lieutenant. He attended Buick Institute, Flint, Mich. and Augustana College. He began working for Montgomery Elevator, Moline in high school continuing until retirement in 1992.
Wayne was a member of boy scouts and sea scouts and became an Eagle Scout. He was a master wood craftsman and a member of Elim Covenant Church.
Survivors: wife Nancy of Winfield, daughter Jane (Willard) Lazar of Wheaton, sons Steve of Bensenville and Brian (Michelle) of Wheaton. Grandchildren: Timothy and Amy Lazar and Bradley and Alyssa Smidesang. Sister: Eleanor (Delmer) Nelson of Cordova.
