William Glen Cook

William Glen Cook, 80 of Orion died November 29, 2004 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. December 2, 2004 at Orion United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3-7 p.m. at Kirk, Huggins & Esterdahl Funeral Home, Ltd. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Orion American Legion Post # 255 and the Orion VFW Post # 143. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church or Orion Fire Department.
Bill was born July 4, 1924 in Coal Valley to Lewis and Frances Branberg Cook. He attended Coal Valley schools upon entering the Army to serve in World War II. He received his diploma from the Moline School District in a special ceremony at Horace Mann School in May of 2001. He married Audrey Marie Lunn Charlson on August 28, 1947 in Kansas City, MO.
Bill was a mechanic in the maintenance department at John Deere Industrial Works for 42 years. He retired in 1989.
Bill was a member of Orion United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Orion American Legion Post # 255 and a charter member of the Orion VFW Post #143. He was a member of the Moline Vikings, Orion and Western Sportsman Club.
Bill loved to play Bingo at Reynolds American Legion Hall and play the slot machines at the Isle of Capri. He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing. Bill was well known for his garden and going to Muscatine for melons. He will always be remembered for riding his John Deere Tractor.
This year Bill served as Grand Marshall of the First Orion Fireworks Lighted Parade in celebration of his 80th birthday.
