William Robert (Casey) Graham, 80, of Davenport, IA, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
Memorial Services are to be held at First Congregational Church (United Church of Christ) in Moline at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, January 31, 2010 in the church's Colonial Parlor. Inurnment will be in National cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Memorials may be made to the Marines' Memorial Association, the Catfish Jazz Society Scholarship Fund or your favorite charity.
William Robert (Casey) was born June 12, 1929 in Monmouth, IL. Casey graduated from Monmouth Public High School in 1947 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps the following year. Serving active duty for three years and ten months, including service aboard the U.S.S. Valley Forge and 5 other ships, Casey was released from active duty as a Staff Sergeant in 1952.
Casey then returned to Monmouth, joining his father at the Graham Tailor Shop as the fourth generation of Grahams to be working tailors. In 1955, Casey joined the United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR), ultimately retiring in 1989 as a Commissioned Chief Warrant Officer 4 (CWO-4) with 37 years of service.
During his time in the Reserve, Casey was employed in the floor covering business at Art Meyer Carpet Co. and Koester's Linoleum and Carpet Shop, both in Davenport, IA.
Casey married Rosemary C. Casad, of Moline, IL on October 23, 1965. He is survived by his loving wife and two sons; John P. Graham of Orlando, FL and William R. Graham Jr. of Council Bluffs, IA. He is also survived by sister George Ann Graham Leonard of Riverside, CA, her son Mark Leonard and her daughter Laura Densmore, both also of Riverside.
Preceding Casey in death are his parents, George P. Graham and Josephine W. Graham of Monmouth, IL, and sister Gretchen Graham of LaCanada Flintridge, CA.
Casey co-founded the United States Seagoing Marine Association (USSMA) and actively participated in the Marine Corps League, Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation, The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), China Marine Association, United States Marine Corps Historical Society, Marine Corps Mustang Association, Marines' Memorial Association, Korean War Veterans Association, the "Gung Ho Gang", and the "Old Marine" Thursday A.M. Breakfast Club.
Casey was especially proud to volunteer as driver for a Veterans Administration van, taking disabled vets to and from Iowa City VA Medical Center. In a decade of service, Casey logged 4,010 volunteer hours.
As a lover of music, Casey was also a member of the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Society Jazz Club, the Catfish Jazz Society and the Manny Lopez Big Band Fan Club.
