William Richard Hurst, 76, of Moline, IL, died Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital, Sarasota, FL.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2900 Avenue of the Cities, Moline. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline. Burial will be at Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, Moline, or to the National Kidney Foundation of IL.
William was born on February 25, 1936 in Rock Island, IL, the son of James "Bud" H. and Florence C. (Nelson) Hurst. He married Karyn Powell on February 27, 1965 in East Moline. William graduated from Moline High School in 1954 and later attended Moline Community College. He was an Army Veteran having served at Ft. Niagara Army Missile Base. William was an active member in Calvary Lutheran Church serving on many committees. He worked as a Corporate Executive in Manufacturing. In 1965 he started Rock Island Packaging, followed by B&D Pallet, Hurst Manufacturing, Eco Pak, Celebrate, Movie Store, Creative Packaging, and All Corr Specialties. He was in Partnership with Mr. Quick and Holiday Inn Express as well as Matcon, Roox, R. I. Pallet & Lumber, Porkie's, and R.I. Display. He employed clients of the Opportunity Center (ARC). William loved spending winters in Bradenton and was a life member at Oakwood Country Club. He was a current member at Tara Golf & CC Bradenton. William attended Living Lord Lutheran Church in Florida. He sponsored and traveled with his family to girls ASA RIPCO Softball Teams and played softball in his early years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing with his buddies, traveling, entertainment, and dining. Most of all he loved spending time spending time with his family. Bill was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, and friend to many. He was a Christian, a positive thinker, motivator, and fighter till the end.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; sisters, Sharon and Beverly; and beloved dog, Abbey.
