William Wood Miller, 85 of Moline died December 13, 2005 at Trinity at Terrace Park, Bettendorf, IA.
Funeral services will be 11a.m. Monday, December 19, 2005 at Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Ave., Moline. Burial will be at National Cemetery, Rock Island. Military Rites will be preformed by the American Legion Post #246. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice.
William was born July 27, 1920 in Canton, OH to Milan and Edna Wood Miller. He married Virginia Gale on May 14, 1942 in New Orleans, LA.
William was employed for 35 years for the former Iowa/Illinois Gas & Electric Company working in maintenance with heavy machinery. He retired in 1985.
William entered the military in the Coast Guard but after the bombing of Pearl Harbor the Coast Guard was absorbed by the U.S. Navy where he served during WWII. William also served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict.
William was a current member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline. He was an active member of the former Aldersgate Methodist Church, Moline. While his children were young he was a coach for 10 years for the Dad's Club Baseball at Garfield Elementary School. He was a former member of the Rock Island County Conservation Club, American Legion Post #246, Moline, and IBEW Local 109. He enjoyed fishing, bike riding, tennis and watching the White Sox play.
Bill's winter time hobbies included working in minature making any number of houses and rooms.
And for the first time in many years he was ahead in his nightly Cribbage game.
