William A. Ware, 91, of Silvis, IL, died Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 3209 60th Street, Moline, IL. Burial will be at 12 p.m. at the National Cemetery at the Rock Island Arsenal, where military honors will be conducted by the Moline American Legion Post 246. Memorials may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church or to UnityPoint Hospice. Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., Moline, is assisting the family with arrangements.
William was born on June 22, 1926, in Rock Island, IL, the son of William J. and Theresa Schon Ware. He married Elizabeth Douglas on October 16, 1948, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rock Island, IL. He retired as a journeyman printer working for DeSaulnier’s in Moline.
William was a veteran, having proudly served in the United States Navy. He was a member of the American Legion Post 246 and Christ the King Catholic Church. Also, he was a former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree Leo Council, where he was very active with the Tootsie Roll Drive. William loved to volunteer his time for the Festival of Trees, Bix, and in the food tent for the QC Open. He was an avid golfer and member of the Geneseo Co. Club. In the 50’s, he co-founded the Moline Little League.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Ware; 3 children, Terrie Falkenstein, Eden Prairie, MN, and Tom (Gay) Ware, Livonia, MI, and Meg (Kelly) Goetz, Granville, IL; 5 grandchildren, Martha Ware, Douglas (Missy) Ware, Brent (Misty) Falkenstein, Laura (Greg) Lamecker, and Paul (Jodie) Goetz; 5 great grandchildren, Brenden Ware, Kelsey Ware, Addison Goetz, Preston Goetz, and Aubrey Goetz; 1 nephew, John (Jan) Brixey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Kristen Falkenstein; great granddaughter, Alayna Goetz; sister, Mary (Charles) Brixey.
