Willie F. Huff "Banjo Man", 83 of Coal Valley, passed away at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island on June 17, 2008.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday June 23rd at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601-38th Avenue, Moline, IL. Visitation will be from 2:00-5:00 on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in National Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by American Legion Post #246 of Moline. Memorials may be made to New Life Christian Church in Davenport.
Willie was born on April 4, 1925 in Good Luck, KY the son of Tommie and Rose Ballard Huff. He married Marian Fern Froedge on May 24, 1947 in Good Luck, KY. She preceded him in death on May 20, 1988. He married Hazel Bradshaw Dyer on November 30, 1991 in Davenport.
Willie was retired from St. Mary of the Angels Convent in Rock Island. He was a member of New Life Christian Church in Davenport. He was a member of the NRA and was an excellent gunsmith and marksman. He was awarded the Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars among others. He enjoyed hunting and walking in the woods with his dog Lucy. Most of all, he loved making and playing custom banjos.
Survivors include his wife Hazel; daughters Karen and Lee Dyer of Rock Island, Anita and Charles Garvin of Davenport, Rita and James Reiling of Colona, Annette and Richard Waack of Grand Mound, IA and Nancy and Dennis Brown of O'Fallon, MO; his son Tommie and Jo-Carolyn Huff of Coal Valley; step-children James and Terry Dyer of Coal Valley, Dennis and Susie Dyer of East Moline, Howard, Jr. and Cindy Dyer of Rock Island, and Donald Dyer of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren, 6 step grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; sisters Lois, Lucy and Ollie and brothers Rollin, Howard and Kenneth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother James and his sister Essie Mae.
