Edward “Ed” M. Mitchell, 91, of Moline, died on April 9, 2016 at UnityPoint Health Trinity Rock Island.

Per his wishes cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd. 6601 38 Avenue, Moline.  A visitation will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.  Inurnment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Moline.  Memorials may be made to the National Honor Society of Moline High School.

Ed was born on May 12, 1924 in Saunemin, Illinois the son of Jesse F. and Daisy E. Bennett Mitchell.  He married Lois T. Terpening on August 29, 1946 in Bloomington, Illinois and she preceded him in death on September 26, 1987.

Ed was a WWII US Army veteran having attained the rank of Staff Sgt.  He was a teacher for his entire career having taught 1 year in the Saybrook Illinois school system, then 8 years at the former Reynolds High School and last for 34 years retiring in 1991 from the Moline School District.  After retirement Ed was very involved with various retiree organizations including RTO (Black Hawk Retired Teachers Organization), Retired & Senior Volunteer Program and AARP.  He was also a member of First Lutheran Church in Moline.

He is survived by his beloved dog, Daisy
