Margaret "Peg" R. Noakes

Margaret “Peg” R. Noakes, 86, of East Moline, IL, died Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, IL.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2017, at First Presbyterian Church, 777 25th Avenue, East Moline, IL.  Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2017, at Esterdahl Mortuary & Crematory, Ltd., 6601 38th Avenue, Moline.  Cremation rites will be accorded prior to the services and entombment will be at Greenview Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kemmerer Village or to First Presbyterian Church in East Moline.

Peg was born on January 19, 1931, in Monmouth, IL, the daughter of Samuel and Laura Work Phelps.  She was a 1954 graduate of Sterling College and a longtime member of the Alumni Association.  She married the Rev. Alfred H. Noakes, III, on June 3, 1954, in Monmouth, and he preceded her in death on October 3, 2014.  She worked as a handicapped development supervisor and teacher’s aide throughout her life.

Peg was a member of First Presbyterian Church in East Moline and a devoted choir member in every church that she attended.  She enjoyed quilting, embroidering, and knitting thousands of stocking caps which she donated to the children of the community.  She was a member of Milan Presbyterian Cover Girls quilting group and an avid Cincinnati Reds fan.  Peg was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood from 1987 to 2012 and the Picture Lady at the Colona Grade School for 9 years.

Survivors include her children, Dave (Lisa), Paul (Jennifer), Howard (Mary), and Ruth Parden; 6 grandchildren, Ashelli, Zach, Josh, Drew, Randy, and Mark; numerous great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Edwards, Marge Powers, Carolyn Phelps; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Randy; 2 grandchildren; brother, David Phelps; sister, Edna Carlson.
